The suspect in a fatal shooting Monday afternoon in Nanawale Estates subdivision has been charged.

After conferring with prosecutors, police detectives charged a 43-year-old Seon Aki of Nanawale Estates at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, first-degree terroristic threatening, and three other firearms violations.

Aki is being held at the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $370,000 bail pending his initial court appearance scheduled for today.

Also on Wednesday, an autopsy determined that the victim, 40-year-old Mateo D. Balinbin Jr. of Nanawale Estates, died of a brain injury from a gunshot wound to the head. The death was ruled a homicide.
